Two weeks into my marathon training and our house got the flu/bad cold! I felt like I’d swallowed sandpaper. So needless to say I haven’t been running outdoors- except one day where it was sunny for an hour. Other than that the weather has been terrible and I didn’t want to risk making my cold worse.
Last week’s training went badly at the beginning of the week due to colds. But the end of the week did look brighter and I went on the treadmill and got a time of 35 minutes for a 5km run, which was quite good considering I haven’t run at any speed in over a year and a half!
So with just 2 runs last week, one in the gym, one outside, I do feel the need to better it this week! In addition, I would like to work on some strength training as after pregnancy I just don’t feel like my body is string enough to run for any kind of long distance. Even running the 5km on the treadmill made me feel like I pulled my stomach muscles afterwards! So here is the plan for this week:
Monday (yesterday!): rest day (I was still feeling ill)
Tuesday: Strength training resistance class at the gym (Thomas going to crèche)
Wednesday: 5km (3.1 mile) run inside or out (depending on weather)
Thursday: Weights/resistance training
Friday: 5km run inside or out
Sunday: 5 mile long run!!
I am feeling a bit better today. Sore throat is nearly gone and my head has cleared. So I wont run but will do strength training today. I don’t want to overdo it if I’m not 100% yet.
Thomas is loving the crèche still so I am looking forward to seeing his face when we see his new friends! I just hope he will nap well this morning, my exercise class is at 10.30am and that is nap time territory!
