A few months back, I wrote about wanting to find out more about alkaline diets and changing my diet to a less acidic one because of the problems I have had with Thomas’ reflux. Luckily, the opportunity arose whereby I could review a copy of ‘The Alkaline Cure’ by Dr Stephan Domenig from the famous F.X. Mayr Healthy Centre in Austria.
Let me start this review by stating this, I LOVE this book. Not only does it give me ideas for healthy recipes but more importantly, it gives me a philosophy with which to live by. What I particularly love about this book is that it is practical and not extreme at all!! Dr Domenig does not advocate eating all alkaline food or everything raw. No, he calls for a more holistic approach to health and wellbeing. He provides a set of principles with which to live by, that get this- anyone can do! It’s easy and most importantly makes brilliant sense to me!
So what will The Alkaline Cure help you with?
The benefits of following the recommendations in this book will help you with weight loss, increased vitality, improved skin tone and hair lustre, stronger bones, better moods, enhanced brain function and a stronger immune system. The Alkaline Cure is also a powerful anti ageing programme by getting rid of toxins in the body caused by an acidic environment.
Most relevant to me, is the benefits the cure can have on fertility (it took us over 2 years to get pregnant with Thomas) and it helps defend against allergies. Hurrah!
What’s in the book
Dr Domenig provides easy and manageable tweeks to your lifestyle that help restore the alkaline balance to your body. He will explain to you how the habits of a Western lifestyle is the cause for toxin overload and explain that what may seem healthy to you is in fact a menu of almost continual acidity. He not only provides menu advice but on how to live well, de-stress and rest well!
The book goes into detail on explaining the importance of a healthy digestive system and what happens when it doesn’t run smoothly. It explains the different acidic and alkaline food groups really well with useful advice and insights. It also explains the 10 principles practised at The Original F. X Mayr Centre that will help guide you to healthy habits for life.
What I found particularly interesting was the role of water in an alkaline diet and the advice on when to drink it and also the different teas and the best time to drink them was really helpful. Hopefully this will get me away from my coffee addiction!
The Alkaline Cure book provides a 14 day eating plan to kick start your new more alkaline diet and lifestyle. Week 1 concentrates on eliminating toxins and week 2 gives you additional alkaline recipes. Not only does the book provide mouth watering recipes but it also suggests some things you can do in your daily routine, such as brushing your skin, to help your body during the process.
The book is really well written, and is easily understandable, it is not a fad or an extreme diet. It is a book written on well founded principles by a medical practitioner with lots of experience. People pay bucket loads of money to spend time at the Mayr clinic to detox, de-stress or to lose weight- this book provides you with everything you need to do just that without spending a fortune!
I will be spending the next 2 weeks following the eating plan in the book and will let you all know how it is going every week and it will be interesting to see if I notice any changes in how I feel!!
And P.S Thomas is a fan:
