Half Marathon Training Begins!

I’ve been talking about it for weeks. Finally I signed up. Yes, I am doing the NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon on the 6th July 2014!!!

I’m sitting here thinking I should have started with a 10k race or even a 5k race, but nope. I went the whole hog and decided to REALLY challenge myself. I don’t know how the hell I’m going to fit training in as at the moment as I’m really struggling with even getting on the cross trainer which is IN THE ROOM NEXT DOOR to me!

It’s been over 4 years since I last ran a half marathon which was the Bath Half and I did it in under 2 hours. That is NOT going to happen this time around! I was a stone lighter then, had a private trainer and worked out in the gym 4 times a week for 2 hours each time as well as do training runs 3 times a week.

I haven’t done any strenuous exercise since I found out I was pregnant 18 months ago! (oh dear….writing this post is making me nervous and regretting my decision already….what have I signed up to??!) It takes me 50 mins to run around a lake which is 5km with Thomas in his pushchair. Granted, I stop and start a lot and talk to Thomas and it’s really difficult to go uphill with the little chubby chipmunk. So hopefully when I do a 5k by myself it will fee a lot easier than when I do it with a baby!

I really want to get back into running again. It’s been too long. It makes me happy. Doing it for a good cause like the NSPCC is an added bonus. Since having a baby I have become a lot more sensitive to anything that involves children- good or bad. I am in tears when I watch a movie and something bad happens to a child! It always makes me want to give Thomas an extra big hug. I could never understand how anyone could abuse a child. I’m also in moved when something extra lovely involving children happens!

There are 14 week to go until the big day. I am following the BUPA 12 week training plan. So I have 2 more weeks to make sure I can actually run 5km without giving myself an injury and getting my fitness levels up!

Half marathon training

The day before the marathon is a rest day THANK GOODNESS!! Because that’s when we plan to hold Thomas’ 1st birthday party!!!! The day after the marathon is our 1 year photo shoot for Thomas too, so hopefully I won’t be too stiff to drive us all to the studio!

I am actually really excited as I’ve never run this half marathon before. I’ve previously ran in the Nike Milton Keynes Half which was at the Open University and was lovely!!! So I am hoping this route will be just as scenic!!

You can sponsor me here. I will be running in aid of the NSPCC and will keep everyone updated with how my training is going through this blog, facebook, instagram and twitter!
